The story
The University of Rome Tor Vergata was established in 1982. It was designed on the model of Anglo-Saxon campuses: one site of 600 hectares.
The campus lies in the southeast of Rome, close to exit 19-20 of the Grande Raccordo Anulare, the city ring road. Research institutions such as the CNR and the Italian Space Agency are based on or beside it, and other research centres sit nearby.
It has six schools: Economics, Engineering, Humanities and Philosophy, Law, Medicine and Surgery, and Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences. Each has its own reading rooms and canteens.
Who studies here
Medicine is part of the campus. The School of Medicine and Surgery sits inside the Policlinico Tor Vergata, the university hospital. The university describes it as a care and research centre and a reference point for the whole Lazio region.
Teaching in English is offered at Bachelor's, Master's and single-cycle level. Medicine and Surgery is on the university's list of courses held in English.

The city
Rome is the capital, and its historic centre, inside the Aurelian Walls, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. Rome is the only city in the world to host a foreign state, the Vatican City. It is also one of the greenest cities in Europe, with parks such as Villa Borghese, Villa Doria Pamphilj and the Appia Antica Regional Park.
The Tor Vergata campus is not in the centre. It is about 40 minutes by tube from the historical city centre, and is also served by buses and by a free shuttle bus to Tor Vergata railway station.
How admission works for international students
There is no single route. Admission and enrolment follow Italian law, ministerial procedures and the university's regulations, and requirements and deadlines change with the program and the academic year. Applicants first choose a program and read its own call or admission notice.
Non-EU applicants living outside Italy who need a study visa must submit a pre-enrolment application through Universitaly, the ministry portal. Where a program asks for it, the application itself is made online on the university's Delphi platform. The university warns that validating a pre-enrolment does not guarantee a visa: that decision belongs to the embassy or consulate.
Entry requirements. For a Bachelor's or single-cycle degree the qualification must normally follow at least 12 years of schooling. Where the home education system requires a specific exam to enter higher education, such as the Gao Kao in China, applicants must meet that too. For a Master's you need a first-cycle qualification, a Bachelor's or equivalent, and the curricular, preparation and language requirements set by the program. In place of an apostille or legalisation, applicants may submit a CIMEA Statement of Verification.
Programs set their own tests. Our admission tests overview shows which test each type of program uses.

Fees
For 2026/27, students from outside the EU whose family income is abroad can choose not to declare it and pay a fixed yearly contribution. It runs from 500 to 2,500 euros a year depending on the course and country: 500 euros for countries on the ministry's developing-countries list, and that is their cost, 1,000 euros for other countries, and 2,500 euros for a few courses with their own fixed amount. On top come a regional tax of 140 euros and stamp duty of 16 euros, 156 euros together.
Families with income abroad can instead declare it and pay a fee based on it, from a minimum of 156 euros up to the maximum for the course. That needs an ISEE-Università parificato, obtained from an Italian tax assistance centre (CAF) with documents from the family's country. Students who do not declare pay the fixed amount.
How we help
At Tor Vergata the fee choice is yours: a fixed yearly contribution, or a fee set from declared family income through an ISEE parificato. We walk through both with your family before you enrol, keep the Universitaly, Delphi and visa steps in one plan, and prepare the documents Tor Vergata asks for. If you are choosing between Tor Vergata and another university, we compare the two with you.
